Australian Open kicks off on screens of 7

Aussie livewire Nick Kyrgios and 17-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer headline a cracking Australian Open night one line-up on Channel 7, 7TWO and the 7Tennis app.

Kyrgios heads out to his successful hunting ground Hisense Arena to take on Portgual’s Gastao Elias from 6.30pm AEDT, while Federer is up against Austrian Jurgen Melzer second up on Rod Laver Arena. Also on Monday night, defending Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber faces Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko, while Canadian Eugenie Bouchard takes on American Louisa Chirico.

During the day it’s a feast of Aussie tennis talent as Bernard Tomic battles Brazilian Thomaz Belluci second up on Margaret Court Arena, while Destanee Aiava faces German Mona Barthel first up on court at 11am.

Late afternoon Aussies James Duckworth and Sam Groth will start their singles campaign against Italian Paolo Lorenzi and Belgium’s Steve Darcis respectively.

Starting day one action on 7TWO will be Aussie Alex De Minaur taking on Austrian Gerald Melzer, followed by Queenslander Ash Barty up against German Annika Beck.

World No.1 Andy Murray and French crowd favourite Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will also be in action on day one.
