Thiem hits unbelievable behind-the-back winner

Dominic Thiem was a late call-up to Monday night's Fast4 event and with one incredible shot he ensured the fans got what they paid for.

The Austrian, playing for the 'World' team with Rafael Nadal after Kei Nishikori pulled out, was in a long rally during the first-set tiebreak against Bernard Tomic when he pulled off an unthinkable behind-the-back winner.

Thiem thought he'd won the point on the 14th shot but Tomic recovered to dig it out and back over the net.

Thiem expected Tomic to hit it down the line and had to stop suddenly.

With no time to turn left, Thiem stopped backtracking and swung his racquet behind his back to 'volley' it for a winner that bounced on the line and away from Tomic.

The incredible shot sparked memories of a similar effort from Dustin Brown in 2016:

Thiem's shot wasn't wasted, either, as the 23-year-old went on to win the tiebreak to take a one-set lead.

It's not the first ridiculous winner we've seen so far this summer:

Unfortunately for Thiem he went on to lose the rubber when Tomic won the fifth set, a tiebreak as per Fast4 rules, and the match.

Tomic's win gave Australia a 2-0 victory in the Australia v World Fast4 contest.
