Federer has hilarious reaction to controversial question

The English press clearly haven't moved on from their country's dismal Euro 2016 demise, trying to pry a controversial headline out of Roger Federer.

In the wake of Federer's straight sets win over England's Marcus Willis, one persistent reporter was keen to tie the win over the World No.772 into his countryman's poor showing on the football field.

"Is it fair to say Marcus, despite losing, put up more of a fight than perhaps the England football team did?" the journalist asked.

It drew laughs from other media members and a hilarious reaction from Federer, who artfully dodged the question. "I didn't see the match, so I can't comment on that. Such a pity," he said with a smile. "I was playing, I was in the press, right? Actually, I got an alibi."

But the journo refused to quit, desperate to pry a controversial response from the Swiss maestro. "In that respect, is it fair to say he's restored, even a little bit, of much-needed pride into English sport?"

"You're brutal, you guys," Federer responded, to which the journo replied "Just say yes."

Funnily enough, the journalist wasn't the only member of the media to take aim at England's football frustrations:

Willis captivated the tennis world with his rags to riches rise and although he was unable to spring what would have been Wimbledon's greatest upset, he enjoyed every minute of his unlikely second round meeting with the Fed.

"I've earned myself a beer now!"
