Pesky bat interrupts Madrid tennis event

During the first round of the Madrid Open, Leonardo Mayer got an unexpected visitor on court, with a rogue bat landing on the clay as he prepared to serve against Feliciano Lopez.

Mayer swiftly channelled his inner Batman, grabbing the bat with a towel and handing it off to a ball kid, before returning to continue with the game.

The bat didn't prove to be a good luck charm though, as Lopez went on to win 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 and advance to the second round.
