It shapes as a classic encounter as the Japanese seventh seed Nishikori has beaten Djokovic twice before and as recently as 2014 at the US Open on a hard court, while the Serbian has had his measure on five occasions.

Late afternoon, 17-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer graces the court in ominous form as he goes up against Czech sixth seed Tomas Berdych.

During the day on Channel 7, there’s a dream match-up as World No. 1 Serena Williams faces Russian fifth seed Maria Sharapova to go into the final four.

Second up at night on Rod Laver Arena, the Aussie women’s doubles sister pairing of Arina and Anastasia Rodionova are in action.
