Is this the shot of the year?

Nick Kyrgios’s outrageous between-the-legs winner against Rafael Nadal this morning is being lauded round the world as the shot of the year.

Not only did the 19-year-old Aussie, ranked No.144 in the world, have the audacity to beat the World No.1 on centre court at Wimbledon, but he did it with a flair and confidence refreshing for all tennis fans.

And the shot that everyone is still talking about? Between the legs, from the baseline, dropping over the net with such deft touch that Nadal did not even bother running for it. And it was done at one set a piece, three games all in the third. It certainly was not a dead point.

The Aussie’s reaction is priceless. How much fun does he look like he is having?

And it is not just Australians going gaga over the shot.

Commentator John McEnroe described Kyrgios’s shot as “beyond belief”.

CBS Sports write Mike Singer was even more effusive.

“Kyrgios played probably the shot of the year, let alone the shot of Wimbledon, as he nonchalantly knocked a return drop-shot through his legs for the point,” he said.

"“It takes some kind of something to try that shot when you’re up a set, deadlocked in the second at three games each against the No. 1 player in the world.”
