A Polish church group has dropped tennis star Agnieszka Radwanska as their ambassador after the world no. 4 posed nude for a sports magazine.

A devout Catholic, Radwanska was a part of the Krucjata Mlodych (Youth Crusade) movement.

Supporting the campaign with the motto ‘I am not ashamed of Jesus’, Radwanska has appeared in videos for the group, urging young Catholics to wear Christian pendants.

But the movement slammed Radwanska’s recent magazine spread in ESPN’s ‘Body Issue’ featuring the 2012 Wimbledon runner-up naked on a deck chair, beside a pool full of tennis balls.

The Youth Crusade called the shoot "immoral behaviour" and ended their association with Radwanska.

In Poland, where the overwhelming majority of the population follows Catholicism, a senior priest Father Marek Dziewiecki joined the chorus of Poles condemning Radwanska.

"It's a shame that someone who has declared their love for Jesus is now promoting the mentality of men looking at a woman as a thing rather than a child of God worthy of respect and love," Dziewiecki said.

"If she meets a man who she can truly love and establish a happy family and raise Catholic children, then she would probably have to hide these pictures from relatives."

The ESPN 'Body Issue' has become an infamous staple in magazine publishing, featuring the big name sports stars in all their glory, with the idea being to "stop to admire the vast potential of the human form. To unapologetically stand in awe of the athletes who've pushed their physiques to profound frontiers."

Serena Williams appeared in the special issue donning a bikini back in 2009 when the magazine shoot did not have every featured athlete appearing nude as is the case in recent years.

In the spread, Radwanska talks candidly about tennis, how she copes on tour and her physique.

"I've always been much smaller and slighter than my peers. When I played junior tournaments in Poland, I was always playing up an age group, so I was much younger and much smaller than the other kids," she said.

"I believe I've gotten physically stronger every year I've been on the tour."
