Teen injured trying to stop joy ride
A 17-year-old boy has been rushed to hospital after falling from an allegedly stolen car being driven by another teenager.
The boy suffered chest and stomach injuries when he tried to stop the other boy, aged 16, driving away in an allegedly stolen red Subaru, police say.
The alleged car thief arrived at a home in Beerburrum Rd, Caboolture, about an hour north of Brisbane, about 10.30pm on Thursday.
The 17-year old leant into the car to try to stop the 16-year-old driving away but fell from the car as the alleged thief sped off.
He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police have confirmed the boys are known to each other but would not specify the nature of their relationship.
About an hour after the incident, the red Subaru was spotted speeding down the wrong side of the road, police say.
Officers found the car dumped about 11.45pm before discovering the boy hiding in a yard a short distance away, according to police.
Earlier in the evening about 9.15pm, the stolen Subaru crashed into another vehicle before fleeing, police say.
The driver of the other vehicle escaped unharmed.
The 16-year-old will appear at Caboolture Children’s Court on Friday, charged with dangerous driving and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
Police are urging any witnesses or anyone with photos or videos of the red Subaru to come forward.
