Swiatek defeats Gauff again, advances to Dubai final
Top-ranked Iga Swiatek has kept up her unbeaten record against one of her rising challengers Coco Gauff, beating the American teenager once again 6-4 6-2 to reach the final at the Dubai Championships.
The three-time grand slam champion improved to 6-0 against the 18-year-old Gauff on Friday, with each of those victories coming in straight sets, including last year's French Open final.
It continued the Polish star's fine run after she defeated Jessica Pegula to win the Qatar Open title last weekend.
Over the fortnight, even plagued by a sore throat and cold symptoms this week, Swiatek has dropped just 14 games over six matches.
"One more to go. Will put all my heart into it," Swiatek tweeted as she looked forward to Saturday's final against Barbora Krejcikova, the 2021 French Open champion.
The Czech Krejcikova defeated Pegula 6-1 5-7 6-0 in Friday's other semi and is looking forward to another crack at Swiatek, who she beat in a tournament final in Ostrava last October in a tight three-setter.
