Surprise appearance from Seinfeld favourite drives fans wild

Like any sports team, fans of the NHL’s New Jersey Devils are as die-hard as they come.

Few though, are as dyed in the wool as David Puddy – aka Patrick Warburton.

Puddy, if you don’t know , is a fan favourite character from Seinfeld, who was a love interest of Elaine Benes.

The character is beloved by Devils fans for an episode where he painted his face to ‘support the team’ in the playoffs, much to the confusion of the rest of the Seinfeld gang.

The actor was the guest of honour for Wednesday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The first 9000 Devils fans to arrive at the rink received a David Puddy bobblehead.

Warburton himself, complete with facepaint and a ‘D’ painted on his chest, dropped the puck.

You’d think the spectacle would be over at that point, but no – the actor had one final flourish up his sleeve, tripping in front of the Devils bench as he made his way off the ice.

Reviving the Seinfeld character had fans right around the league talking.

Although the crowd was hyped after Puddy’s appearance, his motivational techniques weren’t quite enough to help his team over the line.

The Devils went down to the Penguins 4-3.
