Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden has shared an update on her cancer treatment.

The dancer announced back in May that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, and has been undergoing chemotherapy treatment and documenting her journey.

In her latest update on her Instagram Stories, Amy said: "The third cycle of chemotherapy has definitely been my best one so far, because obviously [with] cycle one, I ended up in hospital, infection, into sepsis.

"Number two cycle, I ended up with three blood clots, and this one, no hospital admissions, just had the usual side effects from chemo. So very grateful for that – obviously, I'm not grateful for the side effects, but very happy I didn't end up in hospital.

"Symptoms I got was like sickness, but I always get that because I'm quite a sicky person in general, because of my Chron's. Obviously, more hair loss. I can't now leave the house without something on the top of my head because unfortunately, I'm quite bald on top.

"[There's also] tiredness, and this time, my mouth ulcers were definitely worse. But, saying that, I was only a couple of days at home, I feel like I recovered, got back on my feet quite quickly, and I'm really grateful for that."

Amy said that she has what will "hopefully" be her last round of the current kind of chemotherapy she's having this week. She also explained that she would be moving onto a new chemotherapy soon, and is a bit nervous about it.

She called it "quite daunting because I've kind of got used to this chemo, and I don't know what the side effects I'm gonna get from that one. But I will go in as positive as I possibly can, and am very grateful to have my family and friends all around me."

Amy also shared her excitement about being able to make it to the NTAs, saying it was "just so good to be there... and to be around everybody from Strictly", and her pride at the show's win in the talent show category.

She also gave a special shout-out to her twin sister Rebecca, who took time off work to help support Amy following a recent round of chemotherapy.

"It was really lovely to spend some quality time with Bex," she added.

Rebecca was photographed alongside Amy on the red carpet at the NTAs last week.

Amy confirmed she's due to have further treatment very soon and added: "I can say, on Thursday, fingers crossed, that I'm halfway through chemo."

Strictly Come Dancing returns for its launch special on September 16 on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
