"There’s no way to be contiguous with season four, and not, frankly, expand scale and depth," he said in a new interview with Total Film magazine.
"It’s major, major, cinematic storytelling that happens to be called a TV series. Stranger Things 5 is as big as any of the biggest movies that we see."
"It'll take a while to shoot, which will be tough since we can't get started yet, but it is what it is. I'm excited to go back. I'm excited to wrap it up in a bold, amazing way," David Harbour, who will reprise his role as Sheriff Hopper, recently shared.
"I'm excited to really swing with this character because you know they're going to pay off these OG characters: Eleven, Hopper, Joyce, Will, Mike. They're going to pay them off in big ways because they've lived with you for the past eight years.
Harbour also described the upcoming season as "very moving," adding that the latest scripts are "terrific, as per usual".
He continued: "They continue to outdo themselves, these currently-on-strike writers called the Duffer Brothers. It's a hell of an undertaking, too.
"I mean, the set pieces and the things in the scripts that we saw are bigger than anything we've done in the past."
Stranger Things seasons 1-4 are now streaming worldwide on Netflix.
