Sredojevic: Orlando Pirates aim to compete in Caf Champions League next year

Orlando Pirates coach Micho Sredojevic wants to see his side challenging for continental trophies.

The Buccaneers were drawn against fellow PSL club Ajax Cape Town in the opening round of the Nedbank Cup on Monday.

Nicknamed Micho, Sredojevic is eager to see his side go all the way and lift the trophy.

“The brand we are carrying is huge on the continent, and we need to play on the continent," Sredojevic said on The Citizen.

Pirates would qualify for the 2018/19 Caf Confederation Cup if they clinched this season's Nedbank Cup.

"It is our ultimate target to play in the Caf Champions League or the Confederation Cup next year in order to keep our big brand all over the continent,” the Serbian tactician added.

“In the league, you can recover, in the cup, you cannot. We shall have self-respect because we want to go all the way and win the trophy," Micho concluded.

The last time Bucs participated in continental competition was three years ago.

The 1995 African champions were narrowly defeated by Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel in the 2015 Caf Confederation Cup final.
