Snapshot of Kangaroos' RLWC semi-final win

*Result: Australia (16 ) beat New Zealand (14) in front of 28, 113 fans at Elland Road, Leeds .

*The story: Australia claimed a narrow victory but were challenged throughout by the New Zealanders. The intensity and determination of both sides to hang on and keep themselves in the battle was impressive. Michael Maguire's side lacked a bit of polish and finesse when needed and this will feel like an enormous missed opportunity.

*Key stat: Australia have now won 15 of 16 World Cup matches over the Kiwis, New Zealand's sole victory coming in the 2008 decider. New Zealand have only beaten the Kangaroos once since 2015.

*Key moment: Trailing 14-10, Australia needed someone to lift them and it came from the most basic of tries when Cameron Murray crashed over from just 10 metres out with a routine barge-over. It allowed Australia to hit the lead which they never relented.

*Star player: Joey Manu has been in top gear all the way through this tournament and he battled valiantly with a heroic effort at fullback for New Zealand. The Sydney Roosters man finished the evening with 270 running metres from 28 runs.

*What's next: Australia will play the winner of the other semi-final between England and Samoa.
