Slot 'calm and composed' as Reds prepare for action

The phrase "happy new season" was mentioned by some of the media at Liverpool on Friday morning and there was already a big difference for this campaign with new manager Arne Slot in charge of the Reds.

One thing that is very much the same, though, is the Anfield side's squad - with no signings having been made so far this summer.

This was one of the main talking points on a sunny day at the club's training ground but, if there was any concern from Slot, he did a good job of hiding it.

The Dutchman was calm and composed when questioned about the issue and was philosophical about the Reds missing out on Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

Instead, Slot again mentioned the quality of the squad his predecessor Jurgen Klopp left behind, while adding that work was still being done to strengthen his hand.

Slot was a relaxed presence in his first Premier League news conference but there was also a business-like air about him as he prepares for Saturday's season opener at Ipswich Town.
