Stand-in skipper Billy Slater has backed Daly Cherry-Evans to make a lasting impression when he makes his Queensland return in Wednesday's State of Origin III.

Cherry-Evans ended three years in the Origin wilderness after being recalled to replace Ben Hunt at halfback as the Maroons look to avoid NSW's first series whitewash since 2000.

"I have been really impressed by Daly. We know what he is capable of and I think the time is probably now to show that at this level," Slater said before his 31st and final Origin.
