What were you doing when you were 13?

You certainly were not about to head to your first Olympic Games, which is what teenage skateboarder Sky Brown is about to do.

Brown qualified for the Tokyo Games at the age of 12, in fact, and will be Great Britain’s youngest ever Olympian.

Who is Sky Brown?

The youngest sponsored athlete in the world, Sky Brown was competing against adults from as young as eight years old.

She has a massive following on YouTube and Instagram, where her skateboarding skills have amassed millions of views.

Her career so far

She competed in the Vans US Open in 2016 and won a bronze medal in the 2019 World Skateboarding Championship.

She could have competed for Japan but chose to represent Team GB.

In 2020, she suffered life-threatening injuries following a training fall, which included skull fractures and a broken wrist, but is back to full health now.

Who are her parents?

Sky’s dad Stuart Brown is also a skateboarder, while her mum Miko Brown is Japanese by nationality.

Sky’s younger brother, Ocean , is also a professional skateboarder. Ocean is just nine years old and is already following in the footsteps of his father and older sister.

When is she in action at Olympics?

Skateboarding is one of five new sports added to the Olympics for the 2020 Games. Sky is taking part in the women’s park event, which features hollowed-out bowl shapes associated with skate parks.
