Sixers reportedly hire trailblazer Kate Scott as new play-by-play broadcaster

The Philadelphia 76ers have reportedly found their replacement for longtime play-by-play guy Marc Zumoff, who retired earlier this year after 27 years behind the mic.

Kate Scott will be the team's new play-by-play broadcaster, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. She will be the first woman in Philadelphia sports history to call games full time for any of the four major men's sports teams.

Scott, a California native, currently works for the Pac-12 Network, where she's been since 2015. Her recent resume is more than comprehensive. She's called NHL games, college football games, and NFL games on the radio. She's called games for the Golden State Warriors, and over the summer was the play-by-play voice for numerous men's and women's basketball games at the Tokyo Olympics. She also called soccer games during the Copá America.

Scott has a lot of firsts

In addition to being the first full time female play-by-play broadcaster in Philly sports history, Scott has an impressive list of other trailblazing broadcasting firsts.

Scott was part of the first all-female NHL broadcast back in March. In the same month, she was also part of the Warriors' very first all-female broadcast. She's the first woman to call a football game for the Pac-12 Network, and the first woman to call an NFL game on the radio.

Those are a lot of firsts, but Scott now has a very important second: she's the second woman hired to be a full time play-by-play announcer for any of the four major U.S. men's sports. She missed being the first by only a handful of days, as the Milwaukee Bucks hired Lisa Byington to be their play-by-play broadcaster just last week.
