Souttar's Blades back on top of English Championship

Sheffield United have jumped back to the top of the English Championship with a convincing 3-0 win over struggling Oxford United at Bramall Lane.

Tyrese Campbell was the architect of the victory, helping to set up Callum O'Hare's early opener, then grabbing his fifth goal in six games to make it 2-0 just before the half-hour mark on Tuesday (Wednesday AEDT).

Socceroos defender Harry Souttar, who played a full game for the Blades, also played a major role in his side's first goal, flicking on a long throw before O'Hare netted.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi rounded out the scoring to complete a dominant display and lift Chris Wilder's men to 35 points after 17 games and above Yorkshire rivals Leeds United (32), who play Luton Town on Thursday (AEDT).

"It's Tuesday night and little bit cold and you are playing a team that everybody expects you to win, you've got to get the job done and we did," the Blades manager told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"It is a great home record and that home form has been fabulous and key. I know sometimes I want us to go forward and go from three to four to five but there was some great defending when we were winning three nil to keep that clean sheet."

Scott Parker's Burnley (33) also moved into the automatic promotion places as they claimed a 2-0 win for their third straight victory, at home to managerless Coventry City.

Sunderland (33) lost more ground on their promotion rivals when they played out their fifth straight draw, against West Bromwich Albion at the Stadium of Light.

Chris Rigg and Patrick Roberts both had late chances for the hosts, while the stalemate also extended Albion's frustrating run to just one win from their past 11 matches.

Pressure continues to increase on Hull City boss Tim Walter after the Tigers crashed to a 2-0 home defeat against Sheffield Wednesday.

Norwich City ended their run of no wins in seven games in spectacular fashion when they thrashed Plymouth Argyle 6-1 at Carrow Road.

Borja Sainz grabbed a hat-trick while Shane Duffy, Anis Ben Slimane and Ante Crnac also got on the scoresheet to leave Wayne Rooney's men with just one win in eight.

Elsewhere, Ryan Andrews grabbed the only goal as Watford beat Bristol City at Vicarage Road and Preston North End had Freddie Woodman sent off in the last minute of a goalless draw at Stoke City.
