'Potential link': AFL takes action amid Shayna Jack scandal

The Shayna Jack doping scandal has reportedly had a ripple effect on the AFL.

According to 7News, the Melbourne Demons have warned players about using a supplement they fear could have a “potential link” to the Jack case.

‘CONCERNED FOR WELFARE’: Shayna Jack scandal takes dark twist

7News reporter Tom Browne on Wednesday night said the Demons were being “appropriately cautious” in the wake of the swimming scandal.

Melbourne players have reportedly been using a common and perfectly legal immune supplement, taken pre-fluid.

There is no suggestion the product contains anything performance-enhancing, however the Demons are fearful there could be a link between the manufacturer and anything Jack potentially might have taken.

The supplement is reportedly on the AFL’s approved list and can be bought over the counter.

“It shows how cautious - particularly post Essendon (supplements scandal) - clubs are being,” Browne said.

Jack’s manager has previously stated he doesn’t believe the swimmer ingested banned substance Ligandrol via a supplement.

What’s next for Shayna Jack?

Jack faces a four-year ban after testing positive to Ligandrol, a muscle growth agent, during an Australian swim camp ahead of the world championships in South Korea which ended last weekend.

On Friday, the 20-year-old, who denies knowingly taking the drug, will meet with officials from the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA).

Jack initially cited personal reasons for leaving the world championships only for her positive drugs test to later be leaked to the media.

Swimming Australia has said it couldn't, under anti-doping legislation, reveal the positive test until Jack or ASADA made it known.

Jack will argue she didn't knowingly take the drug - if she can prove her argument to ASADA, the length of ban might be reduced.

She has already been banned from the rich International Swimming League as she prepares to fight her case.
