Shankland 'probably best striker outside of Kyogo'
Former Scotland striker Kenny Miller believes Hearts forward Lawrence Shankland should “absolutely” be on the plane to Germany next year as part of Steve Clarke’s Euro 2024 Scotland squad.
“If I was making the call now then absolutely,” Miller said on the BBC's Scottish Football Podcast.
“Us, as a nation, have never had the luxury of not taking a proven goal scorer like Lawrence Shankland on that plane.
“Who am I to try and pick Steve Clarke’s squad for him? I can only look at what I watch every week from Lawrence and I’ve watched him a lot over the last four or five seasons.
“For me, his game has developed as each year passes, he’s matured into a really good all round striker.
“My statement at the start of last season was that he was unproven at the top flight in terms of real goal-scoring touch. Well he smashed that out of the water last year by getting 24 league goals, I think he got 28 all in.
“He is proven now, he’s probably the best striker in the league outside of [Celtic's] Kyogo [Furuhashi] at this moment in time. I’m surprised Rangers didn’t have a nibble at him in the summer."
