Selangor working to secure new home ground, says manager

After the Red Giants' plan of using the Bukit Jalil National Stadium as their home ground in 2018 was scuppered last week, they have been rumoured to look to the Selayang Municipal Council Stadium as a solution to their problem.

Fan social media pages have reported on Monday that Selangor will be playing at the ground after all, which means they will host late afternoon kick offs at home this season, as the lighting at the venue has been found to be insufficient to hold evening matches.

After the Selangor state government declined to let the club continue using the Shah Alam Stadium as their home venue beginning the 2017 season, the 33-time Malaysia Cup champions moved their home matches to Selayang.

The venue could host evening kick offs last season, but not anymore this season, and the club then planned to play at Bukit Jalil. But last week, the Malaysian FA and M-League organiser Football Malaysia LLP decided that Bukit Jalil is not an appropriate venue for the club.

When contacted by Goal, Selangor manager Datuk Abdul Rauf Ahmad declined to confirm the plan to use Selayang again, but remarked that they are working on securing the venue.

"I can't confirm anything yet as we are still working on it, God willing," commented Rauf briefly in a text message.
