Seahawks scrimmage ends early after DE Branden Jackson carted off with head injury

A mock game in Seattle Seahawks training camp came to a haunting end on Saturday after defensive end Branden Jackson was knocked out and carted off the field via ambulance, according to The Seattle Times’ Bob Condotta.

The play that led to Jackson’s injury was reportedly a collision with offensive lineman Cedric Ogbuehi while chasing after running back Carlos Hyde. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Jackson was unconscious but had movement in his extremities after the play.

From the Times:

“He hit heads with Cedric and might have caught him in the chin with his helmet and it was like a knockout punch, is what it was,” Carroll said. “So we took all of the precautions and took care of him, and he had movement and all that kind of stuff but we still needed to do the right thing and totally take care of him until we know more.”

At that point, Carroll reportedly said the team had gotten enough work in and called it a day. The Seahawks later tweeted a hope for a speedy recovery for Jackson.

The 27-year-old Jackson is entering his fourth season with the Seahawks after beginning his career with the Las Vegas Raiders, then of Oakland, as an undrafted free agent. In 36 games with Seattle, Jackson has posted 30 tackles, seven QB hits and 3.5 sacks.
