Scotland vs England LIVE! Friendly result, match stream and latest updates today
Jude Bellingham delivered a masterclass to help England claim bragging rights against Scotland in Glasgow. The Real Madrid star was at his brilliant best in Tuesday’s high-profile friendly fixture that celebrated the 150th anniversary of the first-ever international football match between the two old rivals, scoring his ninth goal in his last eight matches for club and country.
He accepted an absolute gift from Scotland captain Andy Robertson to score England’s second goal in the space of just three first-half minutes that silenced a stunned Hampden Park after Phil Foden had already steered Kyle Walker’s effort beyond Angus Gunn. The Tartan Army were afforded a lifeline with just under 25 minutes to play after Three Lions substitute Harry Maguire accidentally turned a Robertson cross into his own net.
However, Gareth Southgate’s side - one that showed six changes from Saturday’s drab 1-1 draw with Ukraine in Euro 2024 qualifying - would not be denied as captain Harry Kane stepped up late on to restore their two-goal cushion after more Bellingham brilliance. Follow Scotland vs England reaction live below, with expert analysis from Dan Kilpatrick at Hampden Park.

Southgate blasts ‘ridiculous’ Maguire treatment: ‘It’s a joke'
23:07 , George Flood
Gareth Southgate has spoken out very strongly on the treatment of Harry Maguire in his post-match press conference in Glasgow tonight.
“I mean from a Scotland fans point of view I get it, I have no absolutely no complaints of what they did,” he said. “It is a consequence of ridiculous treatment of him for a long period of time, frankly, and I think our fans recognised, ‘OK, there might be a bit of heat from our own supporters but we are not going to have it from others getting into him.’
“But it is a joke. I have never known a player to be treated the way he is, not from the Scottish fans by our own commentators, pundits, whatever it is, they have created something that is beyond anything I have ever seen.
“He has been an absolute stalwart for us in the second most successful English team for decades, he has been an absolutely key part of that. I have talked about the importance of our senior players, he has been crucial amongst that and every time he goes on the field the resilience he shows, the balls he shows is absolutely incredible so he is a top player and we are all with him.
“Our fans were brilliant with him tonight. I feel fairly strongly about it yes. He is good, he is great, we have had a good win and he was a big part of that. He has fronted up as he always does which is enormous credit to his character.”
England player ratings
23:05 , George Flood
Aaron Ramsdale 7
More or less untroubled by Scotland players, and unfortunate to be wrong-footed when Maguire turned into his own net.
Kyle Walker 8
Took advantage of Scotland’s narrow back three to dominate the right flank. Set up Foden’s goal with a low cross, having earlier flashed a shot across the box.
Lewis Dunk 7
Similar in stature to Maguire and composed on the ball, Dunk could be the natural alternative if the Manchester United continues to struggled. Assured here on his first England appearance since 2018, making an important block in the second half.
Marc Guehi 7
One handball shout aside, was unflustered in another encouraging 45-minute display. Now England’s third centre-half behind Maguire and John Stones?

Jude Bellingham reaction
22:11 , George Flood
“I wasn’t happy with how I played in Poland against Ukraine. I showed a level that probably wasn’t anywhere near my best and I think that’s the motivation always, to try to get back to your best - and I think that was close to it tonight.
“Like I said, I used the last performance as a bit of motivation. It was more than a friendly game and it means so much to the fans and the bragging rights and all those kind of things, so I knew that I wanted to be near my best today so that the England fans could go home happy.”

Incredible from Jude Bellingham there. Turned away from two players, dropped a shoulder and played in Kane for a brilliant assist. What a player.
GOAL! Scotland 1-3 England | Harry Kane 81'
21:26 , George Flood
81 mins: England’s two-goal lead is restored with less than 10 minutes on the clock!
It’s more dazzling, breathtaking skill from the absolutely magnificent Bellingham.
He receives possession from Rice and executes a brilliant turn to leave two defenders in his wake before expertly sliding in Kane, who fires past Gunn and into the bottom corner despite losing his footing.
Scotland’s comeback efforts doused.

Almost uncomfortable watching the Tartan Army target Maguire here after his unfortunate, if sloppy, own goal.
For a few seconds, the whole of Hampden was singing 'Oh, Harry Maguire!' You wonder if Southgate should have thought twice before bringing him on in this atmosphere.

Scotland 1-2 England

70 mins: Scotland are a team transformed with the home crowd very much now invested back in this game.
Robertson charges forward again and delivers a great cross that bounces well over the top off the shoulder of Aston Villa’s McGinn.
England need to try and regain an element of composure and control here. They have offered very little in the second half.
GOAL! Scotland 1-2 England | Harry Maguire OG 67'
21:11 , George Flood
67 mins: Game on!
Scotland have been so much more purposeful over the last 10 minutes or so.
And they get their reward as the unfortunate Maguire inadvertently turns Robertson’s low cross past Ramsdale and into his own net.
Hampden has come alive again and suddenly the Scots have the wind in their sails.
Scotland 0-2 England
21:10 , George Flood
65 mins: All of Scotland’s threat at the moment is coming through Christie, who now sends a low shot well wide of Ramsdale’s far post.
England have taken their foot off the gas somewhat here and are content to invite a bit of pressure.
Great block from Dunk to deny a driving Hickey.
Scotland 0-2 England
21:08 , George Flood
63 mins: Christie has been lively for Scotland down the left since coming on, but the final ball has been seriously lacking from the hosts tonight and there has still been nothing to unduly trouble Ramsdale in the England net.

60 mins: A double Scotland change on the hour mark.
QPR striker Lyndon Dykes is on along with Bournemouth’s Ryan Christie.

Harry Maguire is being targeted by Scotland fans every time he gets on the ball, with loud ironic cheers whenever he completes a simple pass.
It’s cruel but the Tartan Army has sensed England potentially have a weak link who could be exploited here.
Scotland 0-2 England
20:59 , George Flood
53 mins: Maguire is being mercilessly mocked by the home crowd every time he gets in possession here.
Which is a hell of a lot so far as England play complete keep ball.
Scotland must make a change.

Nine goals in his last eight games for club and country. Jude Bellingham is a bona fide superstar aged 20.
The problem with crowbarring Maddison or Foden into Southgate's midfield is surely Bellingham couldn't roam this far forward if that happened.
He has been utterly devastating while still contributing at the back.

Plenty of famous faces in the crowd tonight by the way, including Rod Stewart, Scotland’s First Minister Humza Yousaf and FIFA president Gianni Infantino, among others.

48 mins: No changes just yet from Steve Clarke, by the way.

The news isn’t any better for Scotland from Oslo.
They look like they will very much have to wait to confirm their qualification for Euro 2024, with Norway leading Georgia 2-0 at the break in their Group A qualifier thanks to goals from Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard.

Two goals in three minutes have left England in complete control and Scotland with a long way back at the interval.
Southgate will be encouraged by his side’s dominance after he made six changes. Rashford and Bellingham the standouts.
Scotland 0-2 England

Half-time
Dominant England are fully in control at the interval at Hampden.
Two goals just two minutes and 47 seconds apart from Foden and Bellingham have them on course for a comfortable victory.
That Robertson blunder was an absolute killer for the curiously flat hosts, who have yet to have a shot of any kind.
You expected much better from an in-form Scotland team at home against their fiercest rivals with a rocking support.
Will they improve after the break and at least make a game of this? The gulf in class is enormous at the moment.
Scotland 0-2 England
20:35 , George Flood
45 mins: Into one minute of stoppage time during a lively end to this first half.
Dunk makes a crucial defensive header as Scotland press again, before England finish on the attack as Foden’s low cross travels dangerous across the six-yard box before falling safe.
Another really incisive attack from England, who have played some excellent quick passing football in this opening period.
Scotland 0-2 England
20:31 , George Flood
40 mins: It’s been all Scotland since the second goal, but England’s experimental defence are standing nice and firm at the moment.
Tensions boil over during some pushing and shoving, Bellingham and Hendry getting into it as well as Walker and Porteous.
Hendry and Bellingham are both booked, as was Phillips for a meaty challenge just before. Looked like he won the ball, though it was rather full-blooded!
Scotland 0-2 England

Standard Sport’s Dan Kilpatrick at Hampden Park
The first was a great goal from England, who played their way up the pitch from a Trippier throw-in in the left-back spot before Foden’s first-time finish. Now all the noise is coming from the away end, enjoying a raucous rendition of ‘Scotland get battered everywhere they go’.
Then if England’s first goal was a slick move, the second was a complete gift, Bellingham capitalising on Robertson’s awful error. The Real Madrid star deserves credit for the finish though and a smart one-two with Foden in the build-up.
Scotland 0-2 England
20:26 , George Flood
37 mins: Shock Scotland go in search of an instant reply but Adams can’t turn home amid strong handball shouts against Guehi.
Play on after a VAR check.
GOAL! Scotland 0-2 England | Jude Bellingham 35’
20:22 , George Flood
35 mins: A second goal in quick succession for England!
It’s more silky skills from the superb Bellingham, who tees up Foden for a delicious whipped cross from the left that rather bounces off Kane.
Robertson fatally can’t clear his lines with an awful blunder and Bellingham gratefully accepts a gift to fire home England’s second in just three minutes.
Hampden stunned!
GOAL! Scotland 0-1 England | Phil Foden 32'
20:19 , George Flood
32 mins: The Three Lions are in front just past the half-hour mark!
Brilliant feet from Foden, who deftly guides Walker’s hopeful shot beyond Gunn and into the back of the net, silencing Hampden. I think he meant it!
It was superb work from Bellingham on the edge of the box to create the chance, knocking through for Rashford, who was being kept onside by Robertson and maybe Porteous.
The goal stands after a VAR check for offside against Rashford. England worked the ball so well there.
Scotland 0-0 England

31 mins: Scotland pile numbers into the box on a rare foray forward, but the cross is overhit and the opportunity is lost.

It’s easy to see why Southgate might consider Dunk a potential Maguire alternative.
The Brighton defender is a similar stature to Maguire but good enough with the ball to play out from the back.
He and Guehi have looked assured, while Rashford has been England’s most dangerous forward.

Scotland 0-0 England
20:16 , George Flood
27 mins: Terrific one-touch, incisive passing football through midfield from England.
Rashford, Rice and Bellingham are all involved before Walker is set away and tries to pick out Kane with an early low cross that is diverted behind by Brentford defender Hickey.
Scotland 0-0 England
20:12 , George Flood
24 mins: Lovely run from Bellingham, who ghosts in behind Porteous and collects Rashford’s clever pass.
His lofted ball is picked up by Walker, who miscues wide of the far post.
After a first ever England goal on his 77th senior cap in Wroclaw on Saturday, the Manchester City stalwart wants more!
Scotland 0-0 England
20:11 , George Flood
22 mins: England continue to dominate possession at a noisy Hampden, with Scotland’s spirited early press having receded somewhat.
The Three Lions are content to keep the ball and knock it around calmly, taking the sting out of the crowd and slowly probing for another opening.
Scotland 0-0 England
20:08 , George Flood
20 mins: Bellingham goes down in pain after a risky sliding challenge inside the box from Porteous.
More good work and a nice back heel from Rashford to tee up the new Real Madrid superstar, but the flag was up once more.
Scotland 0-0 England
20:05 , George Flood
18 mins: Chance for England!
It’s the first proper opportunity of the night as Phillips plays an excellent ball through for Rashford, who squares up his man before laying off nicely for Foden to blast well over.
A rare lack of composure from the Manchester City attacker.
Scotland 0-0 England

As you’d expect, England are dominating possession in a ferocious atmosphere, with Harry Kane managing to occupy the entire Scots back three.
But the hosts are obviously fired up and there have been some glimpses from them on the counter.
Scotland 0-0 England
20:03 , George Flood
15 mins: Danger for England after Rice is penalised and Robertson swings a decent free-kick into the box.
Excellent defending from Dunk though to get his head to the ball before Porteous.
That could have been a real chance.
Scotland 0-0 England
20:00 , George Flood
12 mins: That’s a vital piece of defending from Watford’s Porteous to quickly get across and make an important challenge on Kane.
Scotland hit England with a quick counter-attack, though Adams is clearly offside as he picks up a through ball from the left.
Scotland 0-0 England
19:59 , George Flood
10 mins: It’s all a little bit scrappy at the moment, with Walker caught out by some very rapid closing down from Robertson down the Scotland left.
But England are quickly back monopolising possession as another rendition of Flower of Scotland bellows around Hampden.
Gunn comes out to meet Dunk’s sprayed pass forward intended for Rashford, who went too early and is flagged offside.
Scotland 0-0 England

7 mins: No shortage of needle early on here as Walker barges into the back of Tierney and gets away with it.
Every misplaced England pass so far is being cheered to the rafters as you might expect, but Scotland have yet to get going.
They need to get a foot on the ball.
Scotland 0-0 England
19:54 , George Flood
6 mins: England sustain their early pressure as Porteous has to come across and concede the corner after a nice pass down the left from Trippier to Rashford.
Guehi falls under the challenge of Hendry in the box and wants a penalty, but the referee isn’t interested.
The ball is played back in towards Kane at the back post, but again it’s turned behind for a fourth England corner already.
Dunk’s header is well off target.
Scotland 0-0 England
19:52 , George Flood
3 mins: A really commanding punch clear from Scotland and Norwich goalkeeper Gunn after Rice had time to take a touch and loft the ball back high into the six-yard box following the corner.
England well on top in these opening exchanges, Bellingham leaving one on Gilmour after what looked like a cheeky nutmeg from the Brighton man.
Scotland 0-0 England
19:49 , George Flood
2 mins: England look to get Kane in behind early, but the pass is overhit and the offside flag is up on the far side anyway.
It’s been a positive first couple of minutes from the visitors, with Walker forcing the first corner of the evening.

It’s much simpler from in-form Scotland, who are unchanged from their 3-0 win over Cyprus on Friday.

England show six changes from Ukraine draw
18:58 , George Flood
So that’s six changes from Gareth Southgate to the England side who drew with Ukraine on Saturday.
Aaron Ramsdale starts in goal as expected to earn only his fourth cap, with Lewis Dunk and Kieran Trippier coming into an experimental defence.
Ben Chilwell makes way for Trippier, while Brighton’s Dunk earns his first cap since 2018 alongside Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi with Harry Maguire dropped to the bench.
Kalvin Phillips comes into midfield alongside Declan Rice at the expense of Jordan Henderson, while further forward Phil Foden and Marcus Rashford replace James Maddison and Bukayo Saka.
Harry Kane captains the side and keeps his place as usual, with Jude Bellingham and Kyle Walker also retaining their starting berths from Wroclaw along with Rice and Guehi.

Southgate: England like Elliot Anderson and Harvey Barnes
18:23 , George Flood
On the same topic, Gareth Southgate said England continue to monitor Barnes and expressed his appreciation for Anderson as he lamented the difficulties caused by rules regarding international eligiblity.
England famously benefited hugely from convincing both Declan Rice and Jack Grealish to switch their respective allegiances from the Republic of Ireland.
"Both are very good players. In terms of Harvey, he is a player who has played for us. We have a lot of competition in that area of the pitch,” Southgate said of Barnes and Anderson.
"He's a player we are always monitoring and a player we like a lot. With Elliot, again, I think he's a player who has progressed really well.
"We have previously spoken with him but he was named in the squad here so I assumed that was that.
"I thought he had an excellent pre-season with Newcastle. I don't know the answer to the ultimate question for either player but there are going to be more and more of these situations.
"There are so many players with dual or triple nationality now and it is very complicated for every country. Sometimes you can't offer the player something as quickly as they'd like.
"We have benefitted from it and lost players because of it, and I think that is always going to be the case."
Steve Clarke on Elliot Anderson and Harvey Barnes futures
18:18 , George Flood
The international allegiances of Newcastle duo Elliot Anderson and Harvey Barnes have been a particularly hot topic of conversation in the build-up to tonight’s game.
The Whitley Bay-born Anderson - who has a grandmother from Glasgow - had represented both nations at youth level before receiving his first senior Scotland call-up before last week’s latest Euro 2024 qualifying win in Cyprus.
However, the 20-year-old withdrew from the squad and it remains to be seen where his international future lies.
There has also been much speculation that Magpies team-mate Barnes could be tempted to switch from England to Scotland, having only earned one Three Lions cap in a friendly back in 2021 and having Scottish grandparents.
“If we can find people who will improve us and who really, really, really want to be with us then we can improve the squad that way,” Scotland boss Steve Clarke said on Monday.
“If there are people who have a little doubt and they’re not quite sure then I am not going to be phoning up and trying to persuade anybody to come. We don’t need to do that. We are in a great position with the people we have got here.
“I want a Che Adams, I want a Lyndon Dykes. On board from the first minute they walked in the door, on board with everyone at it. They understand what it means to everybody within the group. They got the message straight away and have been fantastic for us.”
England to wear unique warm-up shirt at Hampden
18:00 , George Flood
As you may have seen, England will be wearing a special one-off warm-up shirt ahead of tonight’s clash at Hampden.
The top features the original crest that England wore against Scotland in the first ever international football fixture between the two rivals back in 1872 at Hamilton Crescent in Glasgow, which tonight’s friendly commemorates.
The Nike shirts are limited edition and will be auctioned off after tonight in order to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Refusal to experiment would be opportunity missed for Southgate
17:53 , George Flood
Harry Kane needled some Tottenham supporters last week when he described feeling “a different pressure” at Bayern Munich, writes Dan Kilpatrick in Glasgow.
Speaking ahead of England’s draw with Ukraine, Kane explained that “it wasn’t a disaster” for Spurs to go two games without winning, but at his new club, the perennial Bundesliga champions, even a comfortable win was deemed unacceptable if the performance was not up to scratch.
Kane could easily have added that the same scrutiny also applies to England, who are under a degree of pressure to avoid back-to-back games without a win in tonight’s friendly against Scotland at Hampden Park.
Gareth Southgate’s side were positively breezing through European Championship qualifying with four consecutive wins, including over Italy in Naples, before a first blip against Ukraine prompted all the familiar grumblings with the manager to resurface: Southgate is too negative, too unwilling to experiment, too loyal to senior players, too slow to react in games.
“We kind of know the cycle frankly with England,” Southgate said here about the reaction to Saturday’s 1-1 draw. “I’ve been in the job long enough now. It’s constant, never ending.”

Southgate: ‘Ridiculous' for England to experiment against Scotland
17:44 , George Flood
Not just with Phil Foden, but many England fans wanted to see Gareth Southgate seriously experiment in several areas of the pitch tonight after such a drab display against Ukraine in Wroclaw on Saturday - their first minor blip on the otherwise perfect road to Euro 2024 in Germany next summer.
However, the Three Lions boss has emphatically rejected such calls, calling the suggestion “ridiculous” as he anticipates a really tough and emotionally-charged test against an in-form Scotland side in England’s first friendly since they played the Ivory Coast and Switzerland in a pair of Wembley fixtures last March.
“We’ve got to find the right balance of physical freshness – we’ve had a day less preparation – experience, finding out about some players, winning, playing well,” Southgate said on Monday.
“So, the usual things that are expected of us with England, really.
“But I think the first thing is we can’t fiddle around with the team because we’re playing a top-level side, who are going to be at full tilt and giving us a really high-level challenge.
“So, you can’t overly experiment because that would be ridiculous.”
Scotland vs England: Three Lions trio who must take chance to impress in tonight’s friendly
17:27 , Jonathan Gorrie
Gareth Southgate is expected to hand a small number of England fringe players a chance to impress against Scotland tonight.
With rotations set to be at a minimum, those trusted to start at Hampden Park will know just how valuable an opportunity they will be getting in this hotly-contested friendly.
Here, we look at a Three Lions trio in need of a good performance...
Southgate dismisses Foden clamour with England yet to get best out of City star
17:22 , Jonathan Gorrie
Gareth Southgate has effectively dismissed Phil Foden’s chances of playing centrally for England, saying he is not used in the middle by Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola for a reason.
Foden, who has scored three times in 26 games for England, has said he wants to “adapt and become a midfielder” and there is a growing clamour for Southgate to experiment with the 23-year-old in a deeper role, particularly given the doubts over Jordan Henderson’s international future.
Prediction: Draw in Glasgow

Scotland have more than enough about them to claim a win in front of their home fans, especially considering how half-baked England looked at the weekend.
England had to rely on some inspiration from Kane to claim a point against Ukraine, so Southgate could do with more spark in midfield to make a real game of it.
Scotland 2-2 England.
England team news: Aaron Ramsdale could start
17:17 , Jonathan Gorrie
For England, Gareth Southgate may want to tweak things with the Three Lions were fairly lifeless against Ukraine in Saturday’s 1-1 draw in Wroclaw. The likes of Jordan Henderson and Harry Maguire could do with being stood down, giving the likes of Levi Colwill and Phil Foden a chance to shine.
Aaron Ramsdale, Callum Wilson and Eberechi Eze will all be hoping for minutes after failing to get off the bench in Poland.
Scotland team news: No major changes expected
17:17 , Jonathan Gorrie
Scotland have been in flying form under Steve Clarke, making it five straight wins in Cyprus on Friday, and will surely want to keep that going with another victory against England. Kieran Tierney, Andy Robertson, Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmour should all play.
