Scary moment as 'tracer bullet' collects Pakistan spinner
Yasir Shah has copped a ‘tracer bullet’ in the chest from Aaron Finch during the Aussie’s match-winning knock over Pakistan.
The very first ball of Yasir’s seventh over was sent back at him with power – and his teammate’s cries of ‘catch it’ didn’t help the situation.
“Dropped. It wasn’t really dropped – it was fielded in a way. It was smashed so hard back at Yasir Shah,” ex-Test paceman Brendon Julian said in commentary.
“He’s really hurt him, I reckon. Hit him straight in the chest.”
It took a few seconds for the pain to hit Yasir but he was soon doubled over and catching his breath.
In a moment of class, Finch ran down the pitch to check on the pained bowler.
“They don’t come back at the bowler much harder than this,” former Australian skipper Allan Border said.
“Cries of catch it, just missed it totally. Belted him right in the chest. Initially I thought he was ok – yeah, that’s hurt.”
Replays showed the ball caught Yasir directly on the Pakistan logo on his jersey.
The spinner may have only walked away from the hit with a bruise after bowling out his 10 overs in the eight-wicket defeat to Australia.
After what happened to Fawad Ahmed in the Pakistan Super League last week, Yasir might actually have counted himself lucky.
“Even worse, if it had’ve been a bit higher it would’ve hit him in the face,” Border said.
“Because that came back like a tracer bullet.”
Fawad was hospitalised after getting crunched in the face by a similar hit.
The 37-year-old required gum surgery to repair the bloody damage.
