Australia's Daria Saville is in the hunt for a second career WTA Tour title - and first in five years - after reaching the semi-finals of the Citi Open in Washington.

World No.88 Saville defeated Rebecca Marino 6-1 7-5 on Friday to set up a clash with sixth-seeded Kaia Kanepi who got past Anna Kalinskaya 6-7 (7-4) 6-4 6-3 in a match that lasted two hours 33 minutes.

It's Saville first semi-final since the 2018 Acapulco tournament. She won her only WTA title at the Connecticut Open a year earlier.

On the other side of the draw, fourth-seeded veteran Victoria Azarenka struggled in her second match of the day, falling 6-1 6-3 to 95th-ranked Xiyu Wang in their quarter-final.

Azarenka endured an 80-minute first set to beat Tereza Martincova 7-6 (9-7) 6-2 earlier Friday.

Second seed Emma Raducanu's run ended with a quarter-final defeat against Liudmila Samsonova in Washington.

Despite a tight opening set, Raducanu was ultimately overpowered 7-6 (8-6) 6-1 by the Russian world No.60.
