Sassuolo have missed the chance to jump to the top of Serie A after they were held to a goalless home draw by beleaguered Udinese.

Captain Domenico Berardi fired Sassuolo's only on-target shot as they failed to display their traditional aggressive game and went goalless for the first time this season - they are the league's top scorers with 18 goals in seven games.

Udinese missed a couple of chances in the first half of Friday's match as they grabbed a point that kept them second from bottom.

Unbeaten Sassuolo inched to within one point of leaders AC Milan, who host Verona late on Sunday.

Champions Juventus and Atalanta could draw level on points with Sassuolo by winning their respective games against Lazio and Inter Mila this weekend.
