They may not have won the game in the end, but St. Joseph’s guard Ryan Daly hit the shot of the year to send the Hawks into overtime on Saturday afternoon.
It was that crazy.
St. Joseph’s found itself down three points to Davidson with just seconds left at Belk Arena on Saturday, and was looking for one last shot. With only one second left, Myles Davis tossed the ball to an unexpecting Daly, who was sprinting up the middle of the floor.
Daly quickly caught the ball with one hand, while on just one foot, and launched the ball toward the rim while his foot was still behind the 3-point line.
Somehow, the shot fell to send the game into overtime — all without Daly ever really looking at the rim.

His heroics, however, weren’t enough. The Wildcats outscored the Hawks 13-7 in the extra period to grab the 89-83 win. St. Joseph’s has now lost 12 of its last 13 games, while the win snapped a three-game losing skid for Davidson.
Daly led the Hawks with a team-high 28 points and eight rebounds, and went 6-of-12 from the 3-point line. Cameron Brown added 14 points, and Lorenzo Edwards added 10 off the bench. Davidson guard Jon Alex Gudmundsson led the Wildcats with a double-double with 30 points and 10 rebounds, and Luka Brajkovic added 17 points.
Though they didn’t win, the game will undoubtedly be one that Daly remembers forever. Hitting that shot the exact same way again, however, isn’t likely to happen anytime soon.
