The latest Steelers drama: A fight over 'Avengers: Endgame' tickets

Look, a lot of people out there want to see “Avengers: Endgame” when it opens on Thursday, and there are only so many movie theaters in the United States.

That means some fans are going to miss out on their first chance to see the grand conclusion of Marvel’s decade-long saga. Apparently, that group even includes professional football players.

Ryan Shazier really, really wants to see ‘Avengers: Endgame’

Still on the road to recovery from a devastating spinal injury suffered in 2017, Ryan Shazier apparently logged onto a tickets site this morning and discovered to his horror that all “Avengers: Endgame” showtimes were sold out.

Rather than start checking showtimes for other dates, Shazier took to Twitter and tried to use his status as a pro athlete to address the problem. He even specified he wanted the coveted middle seats of the theater.

Before you pounce on Shazier for not knowing “Avengers: Endgame” tickets would be sold out the day before the move hit theaters you should know there’s apparently a backstory to this. Yes, ticket sales for the movie broke records and crashed AMC Theatres’ site when they first went on sale earlier this month, but a bitter exchange with Steelers teammate Cameron Heyward in the replies implies this request is the result of previous plans gone wrong.

After Heyward replied to Shazer’s request with laughter, Shazer responded by saying “you sold us out,” a middle-finger emoji and a “Kermit sipping tea” GIF. At that point, Heyward explained that he tried to get tickets, but then his wife surprised him with tickets for his birthday.

Maybe there’s something else going on behind the tweets — there almost definitely is — but it’s hard to see Heyward being in the right here.

Also, this is probably the kind of drama the Steelers wish they were known for, not the, well, other stuff.

Just how much money is ‘Avengers: Endgame’ going to make?

While very few people are going to pay a higher price for their tickets than Shazier, “Avengers: Endgame” is still going to make an absurd amount of money. Even before its U.S. release, the movie’s Chinese opening day hauled in $107 million, shattering the previous record.

Ticket presales for the American opening are already at a reported $120 million with a $300 million opening estimated to be in play. That would easily break the record $257.6 million domestic opening of “Avengers: Infinity War.” Keep in mind, all of the above numbers only cover the first few days of two countries. This is clearly going to add up to some bonkers money.
