The Blues hit back against the run of play when wing Matt Duffie dotted down but then conceded a try to fullback Matt Proctor.
The Hurricanes looked to extend their lead but an attacking kick fell into the arms of Blues wing Rieko Ioane, who went 80 metres to score.
After halftime, outside back Jonah Lowe snared his own long-range try for the Hurricanes who then produced the move of the match finished off by lock Murray Douglas.
The Blues open their Super Rugby campaign against the Highlanders in Dunedin on February 23, while the Hurricanes face the Bulls in Pretoria later that weekend.
