Stephen Moore to retire from Test rugby

Wallabies veteran Stephen Moore will give up the captaincy and retire from international rugby at the end of the year.

The 34-year-old had been hoping to reach the 2019 World Cup but will instead hang up the boots after one more season with the Queensland Reds.

Wallabies coach Michael Cheika dropped Moore to the bench in the June internationals, replaced as hooker by Tatafu Polota-Nau, with Michael Hooper taking over as skipper.

The Rugby Championship begins in August with Bledisloe Tests in Sydney and Dunedin.
