Queensland Reds' star hailed a hero after helping woman 'being assaulted by car-jacker'

Queensland Reds star Samu Kerevi is being hailed a hero after jumping from a moving car to help a woman who was allegedly being assaulted by a car-jacker.

Amy Chu has told how she fought to protect her baby when a man allegedly tried to steal her car while the child was inside.

The Brisbane mother has been left traumatised by the incident.

“I could not give up, my baby is there, he might drive my car away. I have to fight for my baby,” she said.

She had gone to pick her daughter up from school on Wednesday afternoon when she noticed her car doors were slightly open.

She strapped 12-month-old Banjo in and when she lifted her head, she found a man standing there, with a metal vacuum hose aimed at her.

It's believed the alleged carjacker had tried earlier in the day to steal Ms Chu's car, before attempting a second time when she was in it with her child. Photo: 7 News

"He was pretending to shoot me through the windscreen,” she said.

When he demanded her car keys, Ms Chu said she feared for her child and tried to distract him.

He allegedly started hitting her with the hose but she fought back, refusing to give him the keys.

"I think this is just a mother's instinct, to protect your children,” she said.

Then, Queensland Reds star Samu Kerevi came around the corner in a car.

He was a passenger, saw what was happening and jumped out of the moving vehicle.

"She was just screaming ‘help, help’. I looked into her eyes and I could see fear,” he said.

"I told him to get off her and grabbed her and shielded her away from him.”

Mr Kerevi then grabbed the baby.

The alleged attacker walked back into Ms Chu’s property.

That was when she realised he had been hiding in her granny flat for hours after an earlier, unsuccessful attempt to steal her car.

The 21-year-old had helped himself to a shower and some soft drinks.

"I didn't know that… That was the scary moment,” she said.

Ronald Kristian Bradley allegedly broke into another home before being caught.

Ms Chu is just thankful he is now behind bars.

And thankful to those who helped her.

"They saved Banjo's life and my life,” she said.

Mr Kerevi said he is not a hero, but to this family, he is.
