Rory Sloane re-signs with Adelaide on monster deal

Adelaide star Rory Sloane has spurned interest from Victoria to re-sign with the club on a monster five-year deal.

The 28-year-old, who was to be a restricted free agent, will not come out of contract until the end of the 2023 season – meaning he is likely to retire as a Crows player.

“This is a great footy club and I have said many times before how much I respect and love the place and people, particularly the playing group,” he said.

“There is always a lot to weigh up, especially given Belinda and I are about to start a family, and we have been in constant talks with the club for some time.

“I’m super excited about what the future holds, both from a personal and football perspective.

“We have created a great environment where there is a genuine care for each other and strong desire to achieve the ultimate success.”

Sloane has played 171 games since being drafted by Adelaide in 2008, with the club reaching the grand final last year for their biggest success.

He has appeared just six times this season over troublesome foot injuries.

The Crows have been criticised throughout 2018 for their response to the defeat to Richmond, having run a camp during the pre-season that proved controversial among the players.

But Sloane’s decision to stick around is a show of faith in coach Don Pyke despite the likelihood of missing the finals this year.
