Atletico ended up winning at Anfield 3-2 and 4-2 overall on aggregate.

The incredible defence from the inexhaustible Spanish outfit has become a hallmark of Diego Simeone’s team and Liverpool were unable to overcome them.

But one man Atletico fear is Mr Champions League, Ronado.

In an unbelievable stat, Simeone has never been knocked out of the Champions League - since taking over Atletico in 2014 - other than to a team featuring Ronaldo.

Ronaldo was part of the Real Madrid team that won four Champions League’s in five seasons and knocked Atletico Madrid out on three of those occasions.

The all-time Champions League goalscorer then moved to Juventus and was part of that outfit that knocked Atletico out.

Fans couldn’t get enough of this incredible stat following Atletico’s impressive defeat of Liverpool.

Liverpool goalkeeping madness

Adrian received the ball in his box and went for a pass through the middle of the field but picked out an Atletico midfielder.

The ball was passed to Llorente and the Spanish midfielder collected himself and curled the ball from outside the box around Adrian.

Fans couldn’t help but claim Liverpool goalkeepers were cursed after former goalkeeper Karius’ blunders in the 2018 Champions League final.

But the drama didn’t end there.

With Liverpool seeking a goal after falling behind on the away goals, a swift Atletico counter-attack ended their hopes of a comeback.

Spanish forward Morata picked the ball up on halfway and charged forward before squaring it to Llorente.

With no support, Llorente composed himself and hit a wonderful curling shot around Adrian to seal the tie and help Atletico progress to the Champions League quarter-final.
