Federer makes epic fashion statement at Met Gala

Swiss tennis great Roger Federer has rocked up to the Met Gala wearing a tuxedo only the Greatest Of All Time could pull off.

The annual fundraising gala for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York sees some of the biggest celebrities in the world glam up to the max, going all out in the fashion stakes.

And apparently that's also the case for The Swiss Maestro, who showed up to this year's event wearing a tuxedo with a cobra emblazoned on the back.

"I've never worn anything close to this," Federer told GQ beforehand.

Designed by GQ (the magazine that recently voted him the most stylish man in the world), the embroidered crystal king cobra represents "business in the front, party in the back", according to Federer.

"I appreciate craftsmanship and details—and here, we have a lot of details," said Federer.

"I think it's beautiful, especially inside with the floral lining. The cobra, I think, is going to be quite unexpected."

It's not the first time we've seen Federer make a bold fashion statement, bringing back his trademark white blazer at Wimbledon last year:

It's also not the first time we've seen him enjoy himself on the red carpet, as we saw at last year's Oscars:

Federer wasn't the only tennis star in attendance, with Serena Williams debuting her baby bump.

Coming off victories at the Australian Open and ATP events in Miami and Indian Wells, Federer recently confirmed his intention to play in next month's French Open.

After defeating John Isner 6-4, 7-6 (9/7) in an exhibition at Seattle, Washington, to benefit his charity foundation, Federer told the Tennis Channel he plans to play at Roland Garros for the first time since 2015.

The 35-year-old Swiss star, ranked fourth in the world, made a quarter-final exit in the 2015 French Open and missed last year's event while dealing with knee and back injuries.

His lone title on the red clay in Paris came in 2009 and completed a career Grand Slam. He owns five US and Australian Open crowns and seven Wimbledon titles.
