Neil Robertson overcome a staunch effort from Ding Junhui to become the first player to book a semi-finals spot in the Champion of Champions snooker tournament in Milton Keynes.

It was a tense battle throughout much of the Group 1 final with neither man unable to gain a definitive advantage, leading to a 4-4 score through eight frames.

Despite some missed chances from both men in the ninth, the Australian ultimately did just enough to clinch the frame on the black before finishing the job 6-4.

The defending champion will now face either Mark Selby, Kyren Wilson, Stephen Maguire or Luca Brecel in the semi-finals on Friday evening.

Earlier, Robertson breezed past Jimmy White 4-0 in their group semi-final matchup, while Junhui won four of the last five frames to defeat John Higgins 4-3.

Judd Trump headlines the competitors in Group 2 action on Tuesday, alongside Stuart Bingham, Shaun Murphy and David Gilbert.
