6:30am: Judo athlete sent home - Islam El Shehaby, who refused to shake his Israeli opponent's hand has been reprimanded and sent home by Olympic officials, The IOC says his behaviour "was contrary to the rules of fair play and against the spirit of friendship embodied in the Olympic values."

6:20am: German coach passes away - The coach of Germany's canoe slalom team, Stefan Henze, has died from head injuries sustained in a car crash last week in Rio de Janeiro.

6:10am: Camera accident - Three people have been injured after an overhead TV camera fell and crashed to at the Olympic Park.

5:40am: Cycling - Anna Meares finishes 10th in the sprint, drawing the curtain on her Olympic campaign.

5:30am: Water polo - It came right down to the wire between Australia and Hungary, with the Aussies going down in a penalty shootout 5-3.

5:10am: Gymnastics - Team USA's Simone Biles continues with her ever-impressive performances on Rio.

5:00am: Basketball - Host-nation Brazil defeat Nigeria 86-69 to keep their hopes alive of progressing to the next round. Nigeria going home.

4:30am: Strapped for cash - Public funds will be pumped into the Rio Paralympics in a bid to ensure international athletes can travel to the Games.

4:00am: Water Polo - Team USA's women's water polo team advances to the semi-finals after thrashing Brazil 13-3.

3:00am: Gymnastics - Greece's Eleftherios Petrounias wins gold in the Men's Rings Final.

2:30am: Synchronised Swimming - Australia's Rose Stackpole and Nikita Pablo have bowed out of the Rio Olympic synchronised swimming duets.

2:00am: Athletics - Reigning world champion Nicholas Bett of Kenya crashed out of the first round of the men's 400m hurdles.

1:50am: Wrestling - Australia's Ivan Popov is defeated by Sweden's Johan Euren in the opening round of the Men’s 130kg Greco-Roman wrestling.

1:45am: Aussie impresses - 17-year-old Chelsea Gubecka puts in a sensational effort to finish 15th in the 10km marathon swimming race.

1:30am: Marathon Swimming - The Netherlands' Sharon Van Rouwendaal claims gold ahead of Italy's Rachele Bruni and Poliana Okimoto of Brazil.

1:00am: Hammer throw - Poland’s Anita Wlodarczyk breaks her own world record, throwing 82.29m to beat the previous mark of 81.08m.

12:40am: Marathon Swimming - Australia's Chelsea Gubecka, making her Olympic debut in Rio, finishes 16th in the marathon swimming event.

12:35am: Hockey - The Hockeyroos' quest for a medal comes to an end after a 4-2 loss to New Zealand.

12:30am: Athletics - Bahrain's Ruth Jebet wins the women's 3000m steeplechase, with Aussie Madeline Hills finishes 7th and Genevieve LaCaze in 9th, both running personal best times.

12:00am: Canoe Sprint - Australia's Alyssa Bull and Alyce Burnett are into the final of the kayak double 500m.

11:45pm Cycling - Anna Meares has lost her round of 16 sprint battle to Hong Kong's Lee Wai Zse, ending her chances of a medal in the event.

11:30pm: Athletics - Aussie Ella Nelson advances to the 200m semi-finals after finishing second in her heat with a time of 22.66.

11:00pm: 'Canoe Sprint- Australia's Alyssa Bull and Alyce Burnett are into the semi-final of the kayak double 500m.

LONG JUMP: The lone Russian track and field athlete at the Olympics has won her appeal to compete at the Rio de Janeiro Games.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled today that long jumper Darya Klishina is eligible to take part in tomorrow's 'qualifying. Klishina was the only one of 68 Russians cleared to participate in Rio by the IAAF, largely because she has been based outside Russia for the past three years.
