Rio 2016 Day 7: As it happened overnight

The Australian men’s four got day 7 off to a flyer by taking out silver in the rowing, while the first day of track and field saw Ethiopian runner Almaz Ayana smash the women’s 10k World Record.

Dane Bird-Smith kept the medals coming for Australia after a tremendous effort in the men's 20km walk saw him come away with bronze.

Sisters Bronte and Cate bounced back from their 100m disappointment to qualify for the 50m freestyle semis, but the biggest ripples in the pool came after Chinese swimmer Sun Yang failed to qualify for the men’s 1500m freestyle. Thankfully Mack Horton did.
