Cliftonville and Glentoran survived penalty shootouts to make the second round of the County Antrim Shield.

The Reds beat Ards 9-8 on penalties after a Solitude stalemate while Glentoran won 5-4 on spot-kicks against H&W Welders following a 2-2 draw.

Larne, who are chasing a fifth straight Shield triumph, eased to 3-0 home victory over Queen's University while Chris McKee hit a last-gasp winner as Linfield edged Ballyclare Comrades 3-2.

Crusaders thumped Knockbreda 6-2 and Ballymena United enjoyed a 2-1 win over Ballymacash Rangers while Carrick Rangers beat Bangor 4-0.

It finished goalless in north Belfast before a dramatic shootout ended with Cliftonville keeper David Odumosu winning it by saving Conor Maxwell's penalty.

H&W Welders led 2-0 at Blanchflower Stadium through Josh McKee and David Parkhouse goals before Jay Donnelly pulled one back for Glentoran before the break.

James Singleton's injury-time equaliser sent it to penalties and Charlie Lindsay was the Glens hero after netting the winning spot-kick.

Ambrose Ajala's double and a Paul O'Neill strike helped Larne to an Inver Park win over a Queen's side which missed a second-half penalty.

It was a much closer affair for the Blues at Dixon Park - Brian Healy put Ballyclare in front and Sam Roscoe levelled before Linfield striker Matthew Fitzpatrick dsaw his penalty saved by Adam Ritchie.

Joel Cooper put the visitors 2-1 ahead but it was level again as Darius Roohi equalised before Chris McKee won it five minutes into added time.

Crusaders struck first at Seaview through Harry Franklin but Curtis Kennedy's double put Knockbreda in front.

The hosts hit five second-half goals with Daniel Larmour, Ross Clarke (2), Jordan Stewart and Jordan Owens on target.

Ben Kennedy gave Ballymena the lead and debutant Ethan Devine made it 2-0 before former United winger Andy McGrory netted for Ballymacash.

Paul Heatley hit the Bangor net twice for Carrick while Kurtis Forsythe and Danny Gibson also scored for the Premiership visitors.

Dean Shiels came on on top in the father v son showdown after his Coleraine team won their North West cup game on penalties against Moyola Park, who are managed by his father Kenny.

The game ended 2-2 before two saves from keeper Max Little helped the Bannsiders to a 5-4 shootout victory at the Showgrounds.
