Rebels looking to upset Reds in Brisbane

Melbourne Rebels prop Sam Talakai says his side is hoping to spoil the party with a win against his former side the Queensland Reds on Friday's Super Rugby game.

The eighth-placed Rebels will look to clinch a win over the 14th-placed Reds after suffering a 31-26 loss to the Waratahs last week.

The Rebels and the Reds haven't been on the field together since round two in February, when the Reds went down 45-19.

"It is a long time between drinks so we'll be looking to go up there and spoil the party," Talakai told reporters on Wednesday.

"Anytime you play the Reds up in Queensland they always turn up, speaking from experience.

"They will really want to give back to their fans up there. For us going up it's a mission to go up and make a statement against them."

The prop said last week's loss was disappointing for the squad, admitting they went "wayward" in the last 10 minutes after being the better side for the majority of the game.

"We're really adamant on trying to get a result this week because it obviously could help us in the finals race," he said.
