We still have a little less than a month before the NBA tips off for the new season, however basketball enthusiasts can watch their favorite player ball out virtually thanks to Friday’s newest release of NBA 2K20.

Yes, there’s considerable fanfare around Madden and FIFA release days, but given how dramatic this summer’s free agency period was, 2K20 is likely to surpass both aforementioned video games in sales and popularity. After all, last year’s release sold over 12 million copies across various consoles.

If you were one of the many who provided input when developers solicited feedback on Twitter while creating 2K20, you might see some of your suggestions in the new version. Fans can expect an updated MyCareer mode with actors Idris Elba and Rosario Dawson lending their voices for a celebrity element.

NBA 2K20 also marks the first time that the WNBA is being included with full rosters in a 2K simulation. The Neighborhood also makes a long-awaited return with new outdoor pro-am modes and other fun features.

When it comes to visuals and presentation, PC Invasion gave the game high remarks.

Jason Rodriguez writes: “You’ve got dynamic scenes and camera cuts, player interviews, media assessments, NBA 2K TV, and more. You’ve got a plethora of settings to tweak and customize to your liking as a way to hone and perfect your skills.”

However, Rodriguez noted the graphics haven’t really differed much from years past, even if the technology has advanced.

“The developers are still using the same old system requirements from three years ago despite numerous advancements in GPUs. Likewise, many of the aforementioned gameplay settings have been around for several games now so you’re not seeing anything new.”

Over at Real Sport 101 they rated 2K20 a solid 9/10, saying the work engineers put into the WNBA introduction has certainly paid off.

Ton Young notes: “Without question, this is the best NBA 2K title to date. The visuals are crisp, the gameplay bugs from previous editions have been eradicated and there has been significant improvements to already top quality modes.

The players feel more real than ever before thanks to the new signature styles, whilst the hard work put into giving the WNBA the introduction is deserves has certainly paid off. The changes to offense and defense make it easier for those who struggle with in-game plays, but are so rewarding when you get them right.”
