Ravens running collegiate plays against Bengals, including Lamar Jackson-to-Robert Griffin option
The Baltimore Ravens came into Week 10’s matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals looking to have some fun. The team revealed that early Sunday, running an option play that included both Lamar Jackson and Robert Griffin III.

The play occurred with 11:50 left in the second quarter. Jackson lined up in the shotgun with Mark Ingram on his right and Griffin on Jackson’s left. At the snap, Jackson faked a handoff to Ingram. Jackson kept the ball and started running up field. As defenders closed on him, Jackson pitched the ball back to Griffin, who was following behind. Griffin picked up nine yards on the play.
While Ingram did not touch the ball, his presence in the backfield led to a fun stat. The play included three Heisman Trophy winners in the backfield. Ingram won the award in 2009, Griffin won the award in 2011 and Jackson won it in 2016. That may have been the first time three Heisman winners have appeared in an NFL backfield on the same play.
The Ravens could afford to break out a trick play like this against the Bengals, who have started the season 0-8 and have struggled on defense all season.
That strategy worked for the Ravens. Baltimore jumped out to a 28-10 lead over the Bengals by halftime and cruised to a 49-13 victory. After the game, Jackson was asked for the name of the option play with Griffin.
The name was unsurprising, and still perfect.
