Raso hat-trick, Kerr brace as Aussies star

Matildas star Hayley Raso has scored a "perfect" hat-trick to help Everton thrash an in-form Brighton in the Women's Super League in England.

Her treble came on a brilliant day for Australia's soccer players in the UK, with Matildas captain Sam Kerr netting two goals for Chelsea in a win over Aston Villa.

Everton bounced back from last week's defeat to Chelsea with a 5-0 thumping of Brighton, who won their four previous matches but had no answer to Raso.

"Right foot, left foot and a header. It's the perfect hat-trick. It doesn't happen often," Everton coach Willie Kirk said of Raso's three goals on Sunday.

"Players play all their lives to get the perfect hat-trick but that's been a culmination of months and months of hard work for Hayley and she deserves that today."

Everton captain Izzy Christiansen opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 24th minute after Maya Le Tissier fouled Raso in the box.

Raso doubled the lead from close range less than a minute later and scored her second of the game early in the second half after getting on the end of Claire Emslie's looping ball into the box.

Simone McGill tapped home her fifth league goal of the season in the 64th minute after the hosts failed to clear Christiansen's free-kick.

Raso completed her treble 15 minutes later when she pounced on a low cross from Nicoline Sorensen.

Later on Sunday, Kerr led the way with a brace in Chelsea's 2-0 win over Aston Villa, moving the club back to the top of the table.

Kerr opened the scoring for the Blues in the 23rd minute, getting above her defender to head a looping Fran Kirby cross against the post and into the net.

The second goal also came from a Kerr-Kirby combination. Kerr met a Kirby cross on the edge of the box and the ball flew into the top-left corner.

Chelsea boss Emma Hayes paid tribute to the "dynamite" duo of Kerr and Kirby.

"Both of them are in the form of their lives and that combination is dynamite, it's telepathic," Hayes said.

"It's rare in football to find those things."

The prolific Kerr has now scored 11 goals in her last 12 matches in all competitions.

It capped a successful weekend for Matildas players, after Caitlin Foord netted her 10th goal of the season for Arsenal in a 3-0 victory over Tottenham on Saturday.
