'Absolutely incorrect': Rafa Nadal smacks down relationship rumours

Rafael Nadal has dismissed ongoing rumours about the date of his wedding.

The tennis great was left fuming earlier this year after his secret engagement to long-time girlfriend Xisca Perello was revealed in the press.

Multiple reports have speculated about the exact date of the wedding, with the time between the French Open and Wimbledon a popular guess.

But according to the man himself, a date hasn’t been set.

"I do not know when I will get married,” he told Sky News recently.

A spokersperson for the couple also slapped down the rumours, saying a wedding in June is ‘fake news’.

“Normally we don’t speak about Rafa’s private life, ever,” Benito Pérez-Barbadillo told People magazine.

“However this information is absolutely incorrect and fake news from non-credible sources.”

‘Bothered me a lot’

For years fans have been wondering why Nadal hadn’t popped the question after their 14-year relationship.

But according to Hello! Magazine, Nadal and Perello got engaged back in May 2018, but they’d been keeping it a secret.

Speaking to a reporter for Spanish publication ‘Diario De Mallorca’ in February, Nadal revealed how he was bothered by the way the news came out.

“I’m not going to tell anything, it has bothered me a lot,” the World No.2 said.

“I never report any of this, I’m not going to do it now.

“You want to ask me about the wedding, right? I understand that you do your job, but I will not say anything.”

Nadal, 32, has previously spoken of his desire to settle down and start a family with Xisca.

“Obviously, I have the intention of forming a family. I love children and I would like my children to do what they like,” he said.

Xisca, 30, who works at Nadal’s foundation, was in Australia in January watching her fiance at the Australian Open.
