Hallowed Crown wins thrilling Randwick Guineas

Hallowed Crown has added the Randwick Guineas to an almost perfect racing record, beating Sweynesse and Shooting To Win in the Group One race.

Winner of the Group One Golden Rose in the spring, the Bart and James Cummings-trained Hallowed Crown ($2.90) raced outside the favourite Shooting To Win ($2.50) before dominating the finish from the 200m on Saturday.

Hallowed Crown went on to score by three-quarters of a length over Godolphin colt Sweynesse.

"The thing about this colt is he is a winner," jockey Hugh Bowman said.

Hallowed Crown is now the winner of six races from his only seven starts and the Guineas result replicated the quinella finish from the Hobartville Stakes two weeks ago.

Bowman allowed Hallowed Crown to ease 200m after the start, ensuring Shooting To Win took up the lead role for Blake Shinn.

Shooting To Win appeared to be travelling well within himself at the 300m but when the sprint became serious, Hallowed Crown was able to match the leader before drawing clear.

"It's a privilege to ride horses like this," Bowman said.

Sweynesse raced in the second half of the small field and jockey James McDonald took short cuts to put his horse into the race but he was never a genuine chance to run down the winner.
