Trust in a Gust upsets Dissident in Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes

Trust in a Gust has pipped Dissident in a photo-finish to win the Group 1 Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield.

Odds-on-favourite Dissident finished with a flurry but had to settle for second place, with Bull Point finishing third.

Trust in a Gust’s victory was no surprise to jockey Damian Lane.

“He’s a winner and that’s what he did”, Lane said.

The Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes continues the Group One spring carnival racing season, and is used as a stepping stone for the races which follow – including the Toorak Handicap and the Cox Plate.

Several winners of these three horse races go on to the next level of horse racing which are the events held in the month of October.

Some of the most important horses that have won major competitions in Australia have gone through the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, including Orange Country, Exceed & Excel and Testa Rossa.

Seven recently announced a multi-year, multi-platform agreement with the Magic Millions for its January Raceday and January Carnivals. Throughout the year Seven will also broadcast the Melbourne Cup Carnival, and the Spring Racing Carnival including the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate in Melbourne, having already broadcast the Stradbroke Handicap and the Sydney Racing Carnival earlier in the year, including the Golden Slipper.
