7 runners in Group One Lightning Stakes

Named after the legendary mare whose stellar career consisted of 25 undefeated races, Black Caviar Lightning Day sees some of the world’s fastest horses come to Flemington for the $750,000 Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) – the first of two Australian legs in the world’s richest sprint series, the 2016 Global Sprint Challenge.

The Team Hawkes-trained Chautauqua enjoyed a remarkable four-year-old season winning four of his eight starts including the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick (1200m). The small field suits and will be out to get back to his winning ways

Trainer Joseph Pride always speaks highly of his sprinting star. At six years of age, he still has a turn of foot to leave most rivals behind. Last preparation won the Premiere Stakes at Randwick and was a close-up third in the Darley Classic behind Delectation and Chautauqua. As genuine as they come, will feature in the finish.

Chris Waller trained four-year-old who at his last start defeated Chautauqua on this course in the Darley Classic in November. Resumes from a spell and usually takes a run or two to find it's peak, however not to be underestimated.

Almost a year off the racing scene, the 5-year-old horse trained by Jason Coyle finds this race company a rise in class. Has trailed well at Warwick Farm and will need to be at his best to overcome this small but elite field.

The John O'Shea-trained colt was in exceptional form prior to it's failure behind Japonisme in the Coolmore Stud down the Flemington straight. His run in the Roman Consul was very dominate and by all reports has trailed well to run well. One of the favourites.

The three-year-old chestnut gelding caused somewhat of an upset in winning the Coolmore Stud at his last start. Talented horse in the care of trainer Chris Waller has obvious ability and was a winner at his only start at this track.

Peter Moody has set his Colt a big task in this company of elite runners. Seemed not to handle the turn when finishing unplaced in the Caulfield Sprint last spring. Has trailed well recently and was a dominate winner at this track two starts ago when winning the Danehill.
