Brown wins Melbourne Cup on daughters' first visit

Corey Brown was a sprightly 33-year-old when he won the 2009 Melbourne Cup aboard Shocking.

His wife Kylie was on hand at Flemington that day but his three young daughters Maddy, Charlie and Holli stayed at home in New South Wales.

Now 21, 18 and 15, they picked a good occasion to attend their first Melbourne Cup as he rode Rekindling to a surprise victory.

"It was so exciting," said the 15-year-old Holli.

"I could barely breathe."

While it was Kylie who revealed to Bruce McAvaney that the girls had never been down to Flemington for the race that stops the nation, Charlie expanded on the feeling.

"Us girls have never been to the Melbourne Cup," the 18-year-old said.

"To see him win is just amazing."

Brown was understated in his celebrations, thankful to have had the opportunity to add to his trophy cabinet more than anything else.

"It's a dream just to ride in the race," he said.

"But to come in and win it again, I'm lost for words."
