Classy Capitalist turns in Classic performance

Boom colt Capitalist has confirmed his standing as the best two-year-old in the land with a dominant victory in the Jeep Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

Capitalist was all the rage pre-race - he was hammered into $1.40 - and that price was justified with an extraordinary display at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

After jumping from barrier two, leading jockey Blake Shinn settled the son of Written Tycoon on the speed in the $2 million feature.

As they turned for home, Capitalist burned off his rivals, beating Nikitas ($11) and Candika ($26) to stretch his undefeated streak to three.

It completes a remarkable set for Peter Snowden, who now joins Bart Cummings as the only trainers to win the top two-year-old races in Australia - the Golden Slipper, Blue Diamond and Magic Millions Classic.

"This horse is special," said Snowden, who trains in partnership with his son Paul.

"He’s still learning - he’s still got a few things to iron out."

A $165,000 purchase at last year’s Gold Coast sale, Capitalist has now won $1,214,200 and is a short priced favourite for the Golden Slipper.
