Jockey hailed hero after saving fallen rival

An Irish jockey has saved a rival rider from being trampled after a shocking fall in a steeple event.

Riding in the 499 Novice Hurdle Race in Ireland, Bryan Cooper acted quickly when his horse, Gunnery Sergeant and rival Neverushacon fell heavily after a jump.

Cooper was left on the ground while fellow rider Robbie Power remained caught in on of the stirrups as both horses regained their feet.

Power was almost dragged before Cooper jumped back to his feet and grabbed a hold of his rival to stop the horse from galloping away.

The 23-year-old then managed to pull Power free with the help of track officials, who raced to his aid.
